George Washington Clouse was born May the 20th 1808, in Washington Co., Tenn. And departed this life June the 5th, 1893. Age 85 years and 16 days. His father, Aron Clouse, returned from the Creek war in the year 1812, and died in a few days after reaching his home. Mary Clouse, his widow, and mother of the deceased, then moved from Washington County, to Sweetens Cove, Marion Co., Tenn. And lived there until the year 1836. He then moved to Shellmound, Tenn., where he spent the remainder of his life. August 24th 1837, he was married to Lydia Watson who still lingers on the shore of time. A few years later the deceased attached himself to the Freewill Baptist church. In 1867 the Missionary Baptist church organized at Macedonia, near Shellmound, Tenn. He then joined that branch of the Christian Church, and lived a consistent member of the same until death. Brother Clouse was a very positive man; he was strictly honest and truthful. He spoke of Heaven as his future home.

He bore his afflictions with fortitude and submission. He leaves a widow, five children, and a large circle of friends to mourn their loss. May they imitate his virtues and avoid his mistakes. May they all meet again in that home in heaven. L.N. Munsey (From DCL file)
