Mr. and Mrs. John H. Graham moved to Dade County in 1928. John was born February 26, 1910 in DeKalb County Alabama to Felix C. and May Black Graham. Mary was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on November 5, 1913 to Charlie Walker and Claire Thomison.


John was a saw-miller and farmer while Mary was a devoted mother and housewife. They settled in the New Home Community in 1943 where they lived until their death. Mary died November 14, 1979 and John died September 27, 1981. Both are buried in the New Home Baptist Cemetery next to their son, Hoyt Lavon.


They were the parents of eight children, four boys and four girls. Of these eight, five are still living. At this time there are fourteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and fourteen great-great grandchildren. The children are:


  1. John Paul, July 8, 1929 – November 1971. Never married.
  2. Charles Lebron, January 9, 1931 – March 3, 1936. Died young.
  3. Clara Mae, March 11, 1932. Married Marion Garner, Jr., Marion is deceased; Clara lives near her children in the New Home Community. Clara and Marion leased and later purchased the New Home Community Store in 1957. They sold the store to Mr. and Mrs. Graham who later sold it to their daughter, Joyce Grant. Joyce operated the store until 1979. (Refer to article New Home Community store.)
  4. Alvin Leroy, March 30, 1934. Married Opal Palmer.
