JOHNATHAN PENDERGRASS AND ISABELL HATFIELD

Johnathan Pendergrass died as a Union soldier during the Civil War in a POW camp. His body was never returned home to Soddy-Daisy (Hamilton County) Tennessee. He married Isabell Hatfield, who died as a young mother of a severe headache, leaving her five children orphaned. These children were: Sally, John, Mindy, Jim and Ollie Isabell.

Ollie Isabell was born November 12, 1863 in Soddy-Daisy; married William S. Castleberry (referred Castleberry article) in Dade County.

Ollie was three years of age when her mother died. A maternal uncle took her in but was abusive. When she was seven years of age her brother, John, found her hitched to a plow and took her away. Ollie died on January 19, 1934 in Birmingham, Alabama. She and William Shelton Castleberry were the parents of ten children. (Submitted by SF)
