Prominent Local Attorney Passes – Shadrach Jerome Hale, 71, a life-long resident of Dade County and this city, died Sunday in a Chattanooga hospital after a lingering illness.


Mr. Hale was active all his life in civic, religious and political affairs of Dade County and this section. He served eight years as Clerk of the Superior Court of this county, and Superintendent of Schools for approximately twenty years, and four years as Assistant Solicitor General of the Cherokee Judicial Circuit. He was engaged in the practice of law from 1914 until his health failed last fall.


He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Annie Dempsey Hale; four children, Douglas E. Hale of Aliceville, Ala.; Mrs. Lorena Allison and Maddox J. Hale, both of Trenton; Shade P. Hale of Chattanooga; one sister, Mrs. Lula Smith, of Chattanooga, and five grandchildren.


Funeral services were held at the Trenton Methodist Church at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. T. N. Orr, pastor, and Rev. Joe H. Hampton, pastor of the Brainerd Methodist Church, officiating.


Pallbearers were Lee Dempsey, Ernest Street, John Hanley Dabbs, W. T. McCauley, Art E. Moore and Perry C. Pace. Honorary pallbearers were W. A. McClure, Frank Dabbs, W. H. Brock, Frank Nethery, M. C. Pardue, Thomas Hughes, Frank Waddell, W. H. Dugan, Dr. D. S. Middleton, J. A. Jenkins, Gib Dock Stephens, W. B. Cureton, Will Hartline, Alfred Steele, S. W. Woodin, W. Frank Morrison, J. V. Deakins, George Nesbitt, Ed Doyle, T. O. Wheeler, Lewis McBryar, James C. Case, Walter Simpson, D. T. Brown, Judge J. M. C. Townsend, A. L. Dyer, B. W. Newsom and R. M. Morrison.
