COMMUNITIES OF DADE COUNTY

 

CLOVERDALE — Named for the Nesbit farm mentioned in the book, ‘FOUR YEARS ON THE FIRING LINE,’ written by Col. Nesbit.

 

AVANS – On Sand Mountain is accessible by good roads. It has a post office and a postal telegraph office.

 

HOOKER – Hooker got its name from General Joseph Hooker who camped there while en route from Stevenson, Ala., to join General McCook before the battles of Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge..

 

It is located nine miles northeast of Trenton on the Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railroad. The post office is Wildwood, Ga.

 

PINEY – East of Trenton. The post office is Wildwood, Ga.

 

MORGANVILLE – Located five miles northeast of Trenton on the Alabama Great Southern Railroad. It is named for the Pioneer Morgan family. The post office is Wildwood, Ga.

 

SLYGO – Located ten miles north of Trenton. It is named for an Indian chief.

 

TATUM – Located about three miles southeast of Trenton on the Alabama Great Southern Railway. The post office is Trenton (Used by permission History of Dade County Georgia, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, 1981)
