HOOKER SCHOOL

The colored school at Hooker was a one room building used for a school and a church. It was similar to other one room school buildings in the county. It was heated with a stove and water was carried by the pupils from a nearby spring.

In 1954 when a new building program began they were provided with an entire new building in a new location. This building consisted of two classrooms, lunch room, office and teachers lounge.

The high school pupils attended Howard High School in Chattanooga, The county paid their tuition and transportation until 1966 when the grammar school was consolidated with North Dade and the high school students began attending Dade County High.(Used by permission History of Dade County, Georgia, Retired Senior Volunteer program, 1981)
