J.M.C. TOWNSEND

 

 

J.M.C. Townsend, was born Nov. 30, 1899 at Wildwood, Georgia.  He graduated at Chattanooga College of Law, LL Degree, 1923.  LLM degree, 1930.  He began practice of law 1923.  He practiced in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Dade County Georgia.  He was a Democrat and a Mason.  He was a member of the House of Representatives in 1931, 1933 and 1935.

 

He was the son of William J. (1862-1824) and Elizabeth Murphy Townsend (1873-1960).  He was married to Eva Fryar and their sons were Johnny Mack and Allen.

 

He held a responsible position in the State Revenue Department in Atlanta for a number of years and was serving on the Georgia Court of Appeals when he passed away.  (Used by permission HISTORY OF DADE COUNTY GEORGIA, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, 1981.)
