Sandmont Gala Nursing Home is situated on the East Brow of Sand Mountain five miles west of Trenton. This facility was constructed during the summer of 1961 by Mr. Charles Berry and was formally opened in September of that year. By December 1961 nine patients were in residence, of whom two remain.

In March 1964 the property was acquired by Dr. Ruth Peet and Mrs. Elna Grant, R.N. who formed a partnership and established it as a 25 bed medical care nursing home. Doctor Peet’s husband, Mr. Ben Peet, became acting administrator, upon the death of Mr. Peet in January 1968, Mr. Jo T. Tullis became administrator.

Construction of the new and expanded facility was started in September and was completed late in 1970. It now provides excellent care for 50 patients in a cheerful home like atmosphere with 24 hour attendance provided by qualified nursing personnel. Patients are accepted from Dade, walker and Catoosa Counties in Georgia with a few from Alabama and Tennessee.(Used by permission, HISTORY OF DADE COUNTY, GEORGIA, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, 1981)
