SITTON MILL

The old Sitton Mill was purchased in 1838 by the late Jake Sitton and was in continuous operation until recent years.  The building was built by Jake Sitton about 1857.   The material for the building was cut and sawed on Sand Mountain by Edward Price, grandfather of W. I. Price, at the old Miller Mill with and old time upright saw.  All lumber was sawed of pure heart pine and hauled to the site with a tar-wheel wagon drawn by oxen.

Every piece of this building was mortised and put together with wooden pegs.

  1. W. I Price was my great uncle. While viviting him when I was young I used to play in the mill and the creek around it. For more information on the Price family and their history go to http://www.cleveners.info and click on the Price Connection.
