THE HOOKER COLORED CHURCH

 

 

The Hooker Colored Church was organized around 1900.

 

Sam hale gave the land to the congregation to be used for the church. The first church was the Primitive Baptist Church. Later it was changed to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. At the present time it is Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

 

Some of the former pastors were: Andy Robertson, Rev. Helton, Rev. Cockran, Rev. Lewis, Rev. Greene and Rev. Grady Collier.

 

Some of the first trustees were: Tom Owens, John Paris, Fred Roberts, Jim Roberts, John Cain Paris, Frances Paris, and J. B. Moss.

 

The present deacons are: Paul Mason, Clifford Paris, Meredith Owens, Moody Manning, J. B. Chubb, Clarence Roberts, and Frank Greene. The present pastor is Allen Lewis. (Used by permission, HISTORY OF DADE COUNTY GEORGIA, Retired Senior Volunteer Program, 1981.)
