William Brand was born in 1756 in Edgecomb Co., SC.  He was the son of Benjamin Brand.  He married Sarah Bryant, the daughter of Gail and Elizabeth Bryant.  William Brand was a Revolutionary War veteran.  He died in Loganville, GA about 1841. 

 

William and Sarah had twelve or more children:  Benjamin, Gail, Elizabeth, William, Jr., Moses, James, Jonas, Christine, Thomas, Cashuel, Isaiah, and Daniel.

 

Our ancestor is the youngest son, Daniel Brand.  Daniel was born in 1787 in Edgecomb Co., SC.  He married Mary Rawlins (or Rollins, Rollings).  They had five children:  Sophia Luellen, Francis Marion, Mary Elizabeth, James Samuel, and William G. Brand.  Daniel Brand died in Walton Co., GA in about 1836.

 

Sophia Brand was born in 1828 in GA and married William Johnston.  They had five children:  Mary F., Daniel H., Dicey E., Ben Hill, and Barton.

 

Marion Brand was born in 1829 in GA.  He married Rachel Priscilla Baker.  His family moved to Walker Co., GA and then later to Arkansas.  They had the following children:  William G., Mary, Daniel, Roxanna, Davis, Frances C., Sarah S., and Robert B. Brand.  Marion Brand died in Waldron, AR in about 1903.

 

Mary Elizabeth Brand, born April 15, 1831 in GA, married Henry McAnary Johnson, the son of Joseph and Jane Johnson who were originally from SC.  Henry and Elizabeth were in Gwinnett Co., GA in 1850 and then moved to Head River on Lookout Mountain near the Dade/Walker Co. line.  Their children were Mary Jane (Cooper), Frances T.A., Walter E., Flournoy, Sarah Elizabeth, William J., Henry Reed, John, and Charles L. Johnson.  Elizabeth Johnson died August 20, 1909 in Walker Co., GA at Head River and is buried in the Johnson Family Cemetery.

 

Sam Brand married and moved to TX.  After his wife’s death, his mother Mary Brand Andrews lived with him for a while, before returning to Walker Co., GA. 

 

After the death of her husband, Mary Rawlins Brand moved to the Head River area.  She had a brother, Benjamin Rawlins living here also.  She married a second time to a school teacher William (Sandy) Andrews.  She died in 1882 and was the first person buried in the Johnson Family Cemetery at Head River.

    Mary Elizabeth Brand, daughter of Marion, was my great grandmother. She married Henry Johnson and there are many of their descendants living in this area. My grandmother was their daughter Mary Jane.
