Metta Pearl Street

was born February 19, 1899 in Slygo Valley (Dade County) Georgia. She married W.T. McCauley (Tom) April 18, 1920 in Rossville, Georgia. Uncle Tom was born June 11, 1898 in Morganville (Dade County) Georgia. He was the son of John L. and Maud McCauley. He died April 15, 1975 and is buried at Sarah’s Chapel. Aunt Metta and Uncle Tom had three children:

Doris Maurine McCauley was born February 16, 1922 in Trenton, Georgia. She married Cecil L. Adkins August 11, 1946 in Trenton. Cecil was born February 17, 1920, son of Kelly and Susie Adkins. They lived first in New Carlisle, Ohio but now live in Georgia.

Clara Mae McCauley was born February 7, 1923 in Trenton. She married Fred Pickett December 1943 in Trenton and they live in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Bertha Virginia McCauley was born February 12, 1924 in Trenton. She married Thomas J. Isabelle April 16, 1949 in Trenton. Tom was born October 18, 1929 in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was the son of Tom and Ruby Isabelle. Virginia and Tom did live in Richmond, Virginia, but they have lived in South Carolina and now at Melbourne, Florida.

Over the years after Uncle Tom died, Aunt Metta had spent time in the homes of all the girls. In the last few years she has been with Maurine some and she was living with Virginia when she died (September 23 rd) I think. She was buried October 7, 1995 in Sarah’s Chapel. Aunt Metta was 96 when she died, but her mind and memory were still very alert.

She was a wonderful person – who took me into her home to live three years, my first years in High School. I loved her dearly and will always feel her love for me.

Baby Ernestine Moore was born September 20, 1916 and died in May 1919. (Submitted by Lola M. Kyte, Kingston, TN 37763.)
